Adel walked across the lawn of his sister's place calmly. It was a difficult task to go out of the werewolf's zone to go hunting. Even more difficult to deal with the bodies now that he had no one to help. Praying upon the homeless and unwanted was easy but not all together pleasing to the taste. He wanted nothing more then to go hunting near by. Taste something with innocent still lingering in it. But Adel had made a promise to his sister and he would keep it. He paused looking at the Mother in law cottage he was staying in and cringed.
Adel missed having someone to talk to during the night hours. He missed hunting with others. But most of all Adel missed a cold body to curl up against while watching old movies. Absentmindedly he traced the name burned into his neck with his finger tip.
“Not the wisest of ideas, Adel.” Adel froze and turned around wondering if he'd imagined the voice. But he certainly couldn't have imaged the blond vampire with dark sunglasses leaning against a white cane looking so disapproving.
“Mel?” Adel titled his head slightly. Mel was The Master's second in command and had been the one to welcome Adel the warmest. “what are you doing here?”
“That is the question of the day, is it not?” Mel smiled slightly and Adel dropped his hand to his side.
“He sent you.” Adel didn't need to ask. Mel served The Master faithfully without question or second guessing.
“Do you really wish to discuss such matters out here?” Mel asked raising an eyebrow thoughtfully looking at the space between the Cottage and the house Jocelyn slept.
“She's asleep.” Adel noted her dreams playfully milling around his brain. “How did you find me?”
“I assumed you'd go somewhere near her.” Mel said indicating towards the window which his eyes seemed to be unable to look away.
“...So why are you alone?” Adel praised whatever higher power there that he was still a new born. “Why isn't He here?”
“Master is in a bit of a rage. If he'd been more precise in the search of the house he may have been able to connect the dots himself.” Mel said respectfully.
“He went...” Adel felt his entire body tighten as he pushed Jocelyn's mind out of his own. “What did he do?”
“You left the Master with a promise of returning to him within the month. Said you simply needed time to think.” Mel said calmly continue to look at the window on the second floor. “I should warn you He does not take well to being lied to.”
“I...”
“You want to take her with you.” Mel nodded understandingly. “Oh the power that little one could have, Adel. You know how he likes to collect the unique.”
“He's not touching my sister!” Adel growled angrily at the older vampire.
“Don't get jealous, Adel. You're the only one He's ever thought of that way.” Mel smirked at Adel pinching his cheek playfully. “May I intrude into why she resists coming with you?”
“She's safe here.” Adel said trying to suppress the mix of relief and panic while staring at the older vampire. “She has a life, friends-”
“Her own personal werewolf boy at her beck and call.” Mel noted with something in his voice Adel couldn't translate.
“I'm trying to break that out of her system.” Adel said feeling his anger swift directions at the mention of the pathetic mongrel that his sister had been seeing. “I honestly don't see what the attraction is. My sister isn't the kind of girl who attracts that type.”
“I'm sure she has her own charm.” Mel said shifting his head slightly.
“He's lucky to have her.” Adel said glaring off at the woods. “I personally thinks its that whole danger element. Bad boys are her bread and butter.”
“She cooks, doesn't she?” Mel asked looking up at the window on the second floor where Jocelyn slept again. “Cakes mostly.”
“She's even found away to make them taste good to me.” Adel said slowly looking at Mel who seemed transfixed by the white curtains blowing in the wind. “Why?”
“She smells fantastic. Even with the cling of wolf to her its overpowering.” Mel removed his sunglasses slowly as if not believing the rest of his senses. Although he'd been blind since birth his rebirth hadn't changed that. His eyes were a glowing bright red that gleamed in the dark. “It's been a hundred years since I've smelt anything so intoxicating.”
“She's my sister.” Adel said firmly stepping between the older vampire and the house.
“I will by no means step over my rank by taking your sister's blood until The Master's given permission.” Mel said taking his eyes away from the window with what might have been all his will power.
“If anyones turning her it will be me.” Adel growled.
“Of course.” Mel bowed his head slightly. “But one may want to make that choice soon before The Master finds were you've been hiding.”
“You're going back to him?” Adel asked softly.
“The coven needs order, Adel. If you do not return on your own I will tell the master where you've been. There is no helping that.” Mel had a way of dismissing The Master's power, it frighten Adel.
“...I see.” Adel looked at the house and tried to collect his thoughts together enough to make a plan.
“He's offering a reward for your return. I can ask for her if that'd make you feel safer.” Mel broke the silence simply.
“Not sure how that's met to make me feel better...” Adel glared at the other vampire to see him put his sunglasses back on gracefully.
“I can make sure she remains as unharmed as possible.” Mel stated. “There maybe some bruises but nothing serious.”
“Thank you Mel.”
“Pleasure.” Mel looked off to the woods. “I'm surprised you haven't run to the other Coven.”
“As fucked up as it is, I still love him.” Adel said almost to quietly for Mel to hear him but he nodded.
“He cares more about your development then I've ever seen. In his own way he may love you as well.” Mel said slowly as if not sure what to do with the information. “Still doesn't answer my question about the other Coven.”
“I don't trust them.” Adel replied shrugging his shoulders. “I don't know it just seems unnatural to go eat deers.”
“It is rather unthinkable.” Mel shaking his head. “I've heard of their leader. Friends with the Volturi.”
“The Volturi?” Adel stared at Mel with horror. He'd heard Master talking about them with nothing but disgust and loathing. Vampires who assumed they had some right to tell others what do simply because they were older.
“Master is the only one to have met them out of all of us, Adel.” Mel said as if understanding his fear. “I have heard stories of their ill intent of course from other Covens. Not sure what they would think of the connection between you and your sister.”
“And that's why I'm not leaving her unprotected.” Adel said bitterly crossing his arms.
“She could come with you,” Mel added softly. “Master would not object to that.”
“...Jocelyn would never leave that blasted werewolf.” Adel sighed.
“Then you do have a problem,” Mel said touching Adel's shoulder. “He will come for you.”
“I know.” Adel whispered.
“I will try, for your sake, to delay him.” Mel promised squeezing his shoulder. “But that wont give you much time.”
“I understand.” Adel looked up towards the window were Jocelyn slept allowing her mind back into his. Don't worry, I'll keep you safe.
