Love Will Keep You Up All Night
written by Mistress Wisewings
Summary: For Fangs' songfic challenge. This is a snippet of a past scene for Webs of Lies and Truth. Christina is dealing with Remus Lupin's break-up. From the song Love Will Keep You Up All Night by Backstreet Boys (beautiful song.. I hate it that Kevin left)
-----------------
Christina curled up in a ball on her bed, tears rolling down her cheeks as one of her hands was fisted in the sheets. She felt nothing but terrible pain that seemed to be coming from everywhere.
I won't tell nobody
I'll just scream it in my mind
Nothing good in life is scripted
It's not like we predictedThat the one you want
Is gonna be the one you thought
How could Remus say all those things? How could he lie the entire time they were together? It wasn't right; it wasn't in his character. Even if he was a Marauder, he wouldn't do something so cruel. There just had to be a reason why he broke their relationship.
I won't tell nobody
But I won't live like a prisoner
Nothing has to be so perfect
Can you tell me was it worth it
Because her heart can't lie
And even though her face may try
Love can keep you up all night
Christina sniffled and took a tissue to her nose, trying to get herself to stop crying. She glanced out the window at the crescent moon, thanking Merlin that she was a born werewolf and could transform whenever she wanted.
She slipped into her cloak over her nightgown and stuck to the shadows of the hall of the school until she was outside, the crisp air blowing over her skin.
Cause love will keep you up all night
It's not something you can decide
One day you're all alone
The next you're crying on the phone
Love will keep you up all night
You got a taste of sweet divine
It took you to the other side
Love will keep you up all night
Her leftover tear tracks froze to her skin as goosebumps formed. She knelt down in the grass by the lake, not caring about the weather. More tears rolled down her cheeks as the all-too-familiar pain rose up once again. Inside, her wolf was howling in grief and for a brief moment, Christina tilted her head back and howled her misery.
If I don't tell a living soul
Still everyone would know
Yes they would
It's always three am somewhere
You know it when you get there
Remus Lupin perched himself on the window sill, staring out into the night. He could not get the image of Christina's broken expression when he told her that they could not be together, that he never loved her. No, he loved her dearly, knew that she was his mate, but she was in danger everytime they went on a date, everytime they kissed and cuddled.
He rubbed his eyes, feeling the prickling of tears. If he had to relive this pain every day for breaking up with his mate, then so be it. At least she would be safe with someone else other than him. Besides, who could love a monster, a beast?
Some people try to cover it up
Some people think it's never enough (never enough)
Christina cut off her howl with a sob and she leaned forward so her face touched the cool grass and she let her grief go, sobbing against the grass. She didn't care that fur flowed over her skin, fingers curled into her hands to form a wolf's paw. Right now, she would welcome anything to relieve her pain.
Cause love will keep you up all night
It's not something you can decide
One day you're all alone
The next you're crying on the phone
Love will keep you up all night
You got a taste of sweet divine
It took you to the other side
Love will keep you up all night
By the time she shifted into her wolf form, she was howling once more, all her pent-up grief letting go.
Remus' eyes looked to the Forbidden Forest when he heard a wolf howl, but it struck something inside himself. He could hear the grief and mourning in the beautiful voice and he felt his own wolf stir to life. A tear rolled down his cheek and he wiped it away.
I don't mean to scare you
But everybody has a first time
One day when you're old and gray
Don't look back and never say
You should have tried
Stayed up all night
Christina threw her body into motion, rushing into the cover of the forest, the notes from her song hovering in the air, as if frozen in time. She ran harder, not caring that her lungs protested against the cold air filling her body.
Love will keep you up all night
It's not something you can decide
One day you're all alone
The next you're crying on the phone
Remus pressed his face to the glass, a hand beside his face. He pretended that the cool glass was his mate and his fingers stroked the smooth surface tenderly. Oh, how he wished he could turn back time to save her, and to an extent himself, the pain, to have never gotten the time to fall so far in love.
Love will keep you up all night
You got a taste of sweet divine
It took you to the other side
To the other side
Love will keep you up all night
It's not something you can decide
One day you're all alone
The next you're cryin', you're cryin'
Love will keep you up all night
You got a taste of sweet divine
It took you to the other side
