Three of Hearts
It wasn’t a dream so much as a feeling with images. It was always the same, always. Harry was in danger, that was something Sirius couldn’t deny. Harry was going to die if he didn’t-hadn’t-done what ever he had done. There were a lot of images that had never made sense, glowing orbs, unmarked doors, a man with the head of a baby, and the vial. The vial seemed to beacon Sirius to its dark embrace. Sirius understood with ever fiber of his being that the vial was death and yet each night he wanted to run to it. But then that laugh, the laugh that reminded him of his cousin Bellatrix and he would awake freezing even though he was in his bed surrounded by warmth.
The dream had happened every night since Severus had run to Grimwald place and begged Sirius to fetch that idiot Potter before he gets you both killed. He knew the dream was nothing but his over active imagination; it wasn’t the first time his brain had fixated on some passing event that might have lead to his death. But here he lay in a bed trapped between his two lovers still having nightmares’ about the past. Since the dreams had started he knew he’d become…withdrawn. He looked out the window of Grimwald place and found a sick satisfaction that the sky matched his mood with its unnatural purple tint.
“Beautiful,” Sirius muttered.
“You’re thinking to loud,” Severus muttered against his back wrapping his arm around Sirius’ stomach.
“…Really?” Sirius smiled slightly as Severus thrust his erection against Sirius’ hip causing a small groan to escape his lips. Severus kissed Sirius neck softly as he moved his hips back a little then slammed against Sirius.
“Severus,” Sirius murmured as Severus started to nibble at his neck.
“Mm-Hmm?” Severus smiled against Sirius’ neck and started to rub against him at a faster pace. Sirius started to breath hard and gripped the sheets tightly causing his knuckles to go white.
“Severus, don’t-” Sirius arched his back slightly as Severus bit into the place where his neck met his shoulder. “Remus is sleeping.”
“I’m sure he won’t mind,” Severus muttered against Sirius neck. He reached around Sirius’ body and gripped him as he thrust hard against Sirius’ back.
“Fuck,” Sirius bit into his lip and leaned his head against Severus’ shoulder as he came. Severus held on to Sirius until his breathing became regular.
“Please, don’t stop on my account.” Sirius opened one eye and looked over to see Remus smiling at him with a distinct predatory gleam in his eye.
“Enjoy the show?” Severus said lazily as he smirked over Sirius’ shoulder.
“How long have you been watching?” Sirius asked, having the grace to blush slightly.
“Since we started,” Severus grinned.
“You’re both going to hell,” Sirius muttered.
“This coming from the devil’s cabana boy,” Remus asked raising an eyebrow.
“Oh, fuck off,” Sirius said wiggling out of Severus’ grip.
“Was it the dream again?” Remus asked looking over into Sirius’ eyes.
“…No,” Sirius said starring over Remus’ head at the disturbing sky.
“You’re a horrible liar,” Severus muttered as he got out of the bed they shared.
“…Maybe you should talk to someone, Padfoot.”
“I’m not crazy!”
“I never said you were,” Remus said softly brushing Sirius’ hair out of his eyes. “But you’ve been having the same dream for 5 years.”
“It’s just a dream,” Sirius shrugged his shoulders. “It doesn’t mean anything.”
“Dreams can often be something very important.” Remus said softly.
“This isn’t. It’s simply a crazy dream!” Sirius yelled. Severus sighed loudly. It used to be them that argued constantly bickering and teasing. When had the table shifted leaving Severus to be the reasonable one?
“Old married couple,” Severus muttered.
“…Fine,” Remus said leaving the bed in a hurry not even bothering to look back at Sirius. “Better get a move on, we don’t want to be late for the baby shower.
“…Is that today?” Severus asked picking up a robe and tossing it to Sirius.
~*~
“Can you two not go three feet with out arguing?” Severus muttered darkly as the stepped across the polished white bridge to the large castle looking house on the other side.
“I’m not arguing.” Sirius said defensively. “I’m just not sure they need more baby clothes? Can’t they recycle the clothes from the other baby?”
“Sirius!” Remus said indignantly.
“What? They’ve had three kids already?” Sirius said brushing the hair out of his eyes.
“Potter’s your godson, you’d think you’d be happy about that at least,” Severus muttered.
“I am happy.” Sirius frowned as the neared the gigantic metal doors.
“…Maybe you should see someone, Sirius.” Remus said hastily before knocking on the door. “I know you don’t want to hear this but this depression you’ve been having sounds rather-“
“Oh thank god!” Remus sighed and the three turned around to see Harry standing there looking like he hadn’t slept in three days and a slight 5 o clock shadow.
“Harry…” Remus said clearing his throat. “Erm, are we early?”
“No,” Harry said raking his hand threw his hair. “I thought you were Pansy.”
“Trouble in paradise?” Severus asked coldly and Sirius elbowed him in the ribs. True, he, like nearly everyone else, didn’t think the two would last but they seemed happy.
“What? No, no. Just went to get some party favors-” Harry whence as a high pieced scream cut threw the air.
“She left you in charge?” Remus handed Harry the package into his hands and headed farther into the giant house.
“Bloody hell,” Severus muttered as he fallowed Remus’ back to the sound of shrill cries.
“They make me sound inept!” Harry said looking at Sirius frowning.
“They seem to have that power on everyone,” Sirius smirked as he put a hand on Harry’s shoulder as they walked in together. The living room was covered with pale blue from the ceiling to the carpet. The only color in the room was the plush white rug in the middle of the room where the three Potter children were.
Sirius knew that Loki was the oldest at three was sitting on the rug looking innocently holding the head of what might have been a very ugly doll. Pan was laying on her back kicking and screaming her lungs out holding the body of the doll. And the third one, Sirius could never remember her name, sat in her little chair crying for the sake of making a noise louder then her sister.
“What’s wrong?” Remus cooed at Pan who seemed hell bent on not stopping her tantrum.
“Dead!” Pan screamed pointing her finger at Loki who stuck his tongue out at her.
“Na-ah,” Loki said shaking his head.
“Pan, I’m sure when your mommy gets home she can sew Miss Twilla’s head back on.” Harry said wrestling the doll’s head out of his 3 year old son’s grip.
“Dead!” Pan shrieked.
“…Bloody hell,” Sirius muttered rolling his eyes and leaning against the wall. And Remus wants to know why I don’t want to have kids? He looked out at the window to the deck and smiled at the darkened sky.
“Can’t you do anything to shut them up? “ Severus asked covering his ears.
“Set, please be quiet for Daddy?” Harry begged picking up the youngest girl and cuddling her to his chest. “I’ll buy you the best broom money can buy if you’ll just be quiet.”
“That’s the way to raise them, darling.” Sirius didn’t need to look over to know Pansy had entered the room but he turned his head anyway.
“Mommy!” Pan jumped up from the rug and ran to pull on Pansy’s skirt.
“I’m gone 20 minuets and everything’s gone to hell?” Pansy asked setting down her bags on the floor.
“Well, I tried to get them to be quiet and…” Harry muttered as Pansy took Set from his hands and put her back in her chair.
“Sorry you had to see this,” Pansy said smiling shyly at the three older man as she stood up and put a hand to her swollen belly.
“It’s no problem, really.” Remus smiled happily. “You look…well.”
“I look fat but thank you.” Pansy patted Pan’s head and lead her to the rug. “You want to watch the movie with the pretty lady?”
“Uh huh.” Pan nodded her head vigorously.
“I’m not sure Rear Window is really good for them at this age…” Harry said softly.
“It calms them down.” Pansy said coldly.
“…I need some air.” Sirius said walking with a fast pace out the sliding door on to the deck. He took a long breath and leaned against the wall of the house. He starred up at the darkening sky and wished desperately that it would rain.
“Rain won’t solve anything.” Sirius looked over towards the railing. He could have sworn he’d heard someone say something. He could see an outline, like a blurry negative then it disappeared.
“…What?” Sirius starred at the railing hard and saw a shadowy figure disappear again then reappear more solid if you could call it that. It was a shape of a person, dressed in clothes Sirius had never seen but its gender was undetectable.
“Hello,” The voice was a whisper as if it had been smoking 3 packs a day since it was old enough to walk. It touched its throat and winced.
“Who are you?” Sirius asked pointing his wand at the figure.
“"I ... am unimportant.” The figure seemed to shimmer a moment before becoming solid again. “...you have absolutely no idea how screwed up this is."
“What are you?”
“Again, it is unimportant.” The figure pulled on its collar.
“…How screwed up?” Sirius wasn’t sure why he asked; surely this…thing wasn’t real.
“You’re having the dreams, are you not?” They asked.
“How do you know-Did you talk to Remus?!”
“No,” The figure sighed. “I am truly sorry for the trouble they’ve caused you, but it is to be expected.”
“Expected?”
“I don’t have the time to really get into this with you, Sirius.” The figure looked up at the darkening sky as a purple lightning bolt ripped threw the sky. “Things are headed to hard place and I must be tending to them but you deserve answers, yes?”
“What are you going on about?” Sirius narrowed his eyes hard at the figure.
“Have you ever had dasiavu? Stood in a room you’ve never been in before but felt like you’d seen it? That is your lives over lapping, there’s one in every munch.”
“How did you...”
“You are the last Sirius O Black. Surely you’ve felt it. When you were younger you felt invincible, unstoppable. You had an idea how things would go and you slept well with that feeling. But as the years past the feeling was stripped away with some nightmare or another of some kind of death.”
“I never told anyone about the dreams.” Sirius said as he tightened his hand on his wand to keep it from shaking. “But the last, what the bloody hell does that mean?!”
“You are the last. In all the universes, in all the many splendor of the many choices you’ve made you are the only one to live. You are the Jack Crusher, the spare. You made the right choices because somewhere in your subconscious you knew what would happen. You choose love over defying Severus and you lasted.”
“The dreams…”
“Is how the other Sirius died. Most spares die within a year of the others but you, well you’re just complicated aren’t you?” The figure smirked. “Now, it’s understandable to be as distant from your friends and family as you are but if you don’t watch it you’ll end up like all the rest.”
“I’m just meant to take this news and go frolic about in an impish manner?” Sirius growled.
“No, don’t be dense. Just go back into the party and cuddle those who love you, they’ve kept you around this long. You’ve always been connected; their like your kite string.”
“Sirius?” Sirius whirled around and saw Remus standing in the door way holding Loki in his arms. “What are you doing out here by your self?”
“…Nothing.” Sirius said looking over his shoulder at the place where the figure had been standing. “I’ve been thinking...who was it that you said I should see?”
“You…You mean it?” Remus smiled brightly as he clutched the 3 year old to his chest. “You’ll go?”
“Can’t fight it forever, can I?” Sirius smiled as he headed back inside kissing Remus on the cheek softly.
